William S. Hitchcock, Ph.D.

Dr. Hitchcock earned a Master's degree in Environmental Chemistry from the University of South Florida and a Doctorate in Physical Chemistry from the University of Missouri-Rolla. He has more than 15 years of experience in managing the quality of chemical data and in interpreting the significance of such data. He has more than 20 years of experience in environmental sampling, including experience in RCRA, CERCLA, NESHAPS, and NPDES sampling.

After completing his education, he taught general, physical, and analytical chemistry at Rockhurst College in Kansas City, MO. In the early 1980's he accepted a position with Conoco, Inc. in Ponca City, OK. He served as a research chemist, specializing in radiochemistry. He synthesized radioactive tracers, planned and performed tracer studies, and managed the Radiochemistry Group's LIMS. He performed radionuclide analyses including gas-flow proportional counting, liquid scintillation, solid scintillation, and semi-conductor counting.

In 1986, he transferred to Conoco's Environmental Services Division. His duties included technical oversight, project management, and litigation support. He represented three Conoco Refineries in permit negotiations with State, Regional and Federal EPA. The Governor of Oklahoma cited him for his service on an industry/agency committee drafting land-treatment regulations.

In the late 1980's he served as Quality Assurance Officer for Conoco's full service environmental laboratory. During this same period, he provided technical expertise in quality assurance and environmental sampling and was instrumental in establishing a groundwater monitoring network for DuPont's Gulf Coast Plants.

In 1991, Dr. Hitchcock was offered and accepted the challenge of joining the newly created DuPont Environmental Remediation Services and subsequently served as Principal Chemist. He had overall responsibility for the quality of analytical data collected during DuPont investigations and remediation projects. He audited laboratories for DuPont and for outside clients, and provided expert review and interpretation of environmental regulations. He supervised data validation activities and provided training to staff on environmental science and chemistry.

Dr. Hitchcock is consulting on environmental projects and providing expert testimony and litigation support
